どう and どういう

Both どう and どういう can be translated to 'how', but

1. syntactically どういう is always followed by a noun, and
2. semantically どういう usually seeks a lower level of details
   

例：

• How is the weather today?
  今日の天気はどうですか? →天気が良いか悪いか聞いている
  今日の天気はどうですか?→いいですよ (=良いですよ)
  
  
• What weather is it today?
  今日はどういう天気ですか? →今日は晴、雨、くもり、雪なのか知りたい
  今日はどういう天気ですか?→晴れです

Every character of どういう needs to be pronounced in a slurring manner. It sounds likeどーゆー

Motivation

My purpose for creating this blog is just to collect some of the things I learn about the Japanese language from time to time. I have attended a few months of formal course, own a half dozen of Japanese course books, but other than that, I don't know any Japanese native speaker in person, nor have I been to the country. All my knowledge of the languages comes entirely from the media (anime, movies, songs).

The title of the blog helps to remind the visitors that this blog is created by a non-Japanese :)
